STORIES
The stories Catrine Val’s
subjects tell juxtapose the pride they take in being part of the Jewish community,
its traditions and observances, with past and current trauma(s), and with the
difficulties of negotiating Britain’s traditions, habits and prejudices. Most
are committed to keeping the Judaic traditions alive, or where these have
lapsed, they are re-familiarizing themselves with and developing a deeper
knowledge of them.
Equally, many display an extraordinary resilience, an entrepreneurial spirit and a zest for life, which seems at odds with the challenges presented by the pandemic.
